AstroWeekly is cross between easy-to-access ephemeris & general astrology forecast. This series is here to assist your personal practice and provide pointers as to how the present moment is rhyming with you (your natal chart), externally and internally. All times are in PST. This week of lunar spring ranges from the New Moon in Taurus to the Waxing Quarter Moon in Leo. The Moon has tea (forms conjunctions) with all the personal planets this week, checking in with desire, mindset, and drive – this being a monthly meeting.
New Moons can be really helpful energetic check-ins. The Moon makes a conjunction to the Sun, meaning they blend & fuse functions. It’s an auspicious monthly moment for checking in on the alignment of your inner meaning and outer purpose. Yes, I said purpose. Yes, it’s a very cheesy term, but try to look at what I’m pointing at. We get caught up in the day to day push and pull of comings and goings (Moon), making it beneficial to regularly check in with out more over-arching, light-shining, conscious-making function (Sun) in order to update in the direction of alignment. Without this loving attention, we can easily veer far off the path into survival/waking-dead mode.
This is why New Moons are often when folks set monthly intentions, because it’s more likely to come from a place of your long-term desires, from more of your whole-self. But remember that astrology reflects the shape of your bias or reason, it does not alter whether you approach your life from a place of bias or reason — that comes from self-responsibility.
Exact times provided for events like the new, full, and quarter moons. But when it comes to time brackets for void-of-course moons and moon mansions, times are rounded. I’m looking out for my neurotic friends who get lost in the derailing details – and I’m rounding this shit.

Last weekend while the Moon was in Aries, the Moon and Mars were in mutual reception. This weekend, while the Moon is in Cancer, they’re conjunct by sign. Let yourself really feel your feelings folks, or this energy can get petty. Behavior is more prone to be swayed by emotions, which are not easily externally expressed in this configuration and can therefore come out sideways and manipulative. Project to your journal, not your partner/s or friends. Conscious complaining is a zillion times more healthy than unconscious complaining and repression put together.
Especially look for this in your Cancer House or any natal planets that Mars may be making a major aspect to (conjunction, sextile, trine, square, opposition). Mars may not particularly enjoy being in the domicile of the Moon, and acting on decisions in a land of moodiness doesn’t make for super productive actions — but this does heat up and bring the attention to whiny, stagnant energies that needs to be felt through in order to be transmuted (or else it backfires shadow-style). So my friends: Will you weep or will you whine?
Yup, you read that right: Jupiter is moving into his domicile of Pisces this week! Spending about a year in each sign, it’s been over a decade since Jupiter has thrown a Dionysian-level party in Pisces. However. This is just a taste. Jupiter is stopping by home to pick up some comfort items and then retrograding back into Aquarius (mid-June through mid-October).
Jupiter in Pisces hails luck, optimism, opportunity, and good fortune. He enters this new sign while in a square with the Sun, so be on the lookout for excess & over-doing. Wield your agency in a way that dodges this potential energetic hangover.
So yes, this kicks off a preview to Jupiter’s full journey through your Piscean house next year, but more importantly, this is the Wisdom archetype nourishing himself before going back to finish up whatever was started in your Aquarius house (where Saturn is still directing a major overhaul).
The planet of generosity has been in cool, detached Aquarius with the planet of discipline. This week features a shift into his own home gushy-embodied Pisces, a place where his spiritual inclinations have far more room to blossom. I’m reminded of the Verizon “Can you hear me now?” commercials, where Jupiter is calling out “Can you feel me now??”
Mercury is in a strong trine with Saturn on the New Moon, imprinting that stamp on the entire week. This is an excellent atmosphere for accomplishing written work, or foundation-laying mental/abstract work. This transit also frees up creative energy around boundary setting — especially in combination with Venus also moving into a trine with Saturn (and ruled of the New Moon). The deepening and concentration offered by Saturn is available to the functions of relating & communicating. Just keep in mind this is occurring in detached, concept-oriented air signs. Hopefully the Sun in earthy Taurus can keep things grounded and practical.
Speaking of which, the Sun moves into a square with Jupiter this week. As I mentioned above, this can lend itself towards excess and overdoing, possibly exaggerated optimism. If you can remain balanced amidst this, it’s a great opportunity here to see how you’re allowing faith/trust to function in your life, in your aims, in your purpose/goals.
Shortly after the Moon enters Cancer on Friday evening (May 14), Mercury enters its shadow and begins traversing the degrees it will soon retrograde back over (from 24 back to 16 degrees of Gemini). Record any themes of note in your Gemini House or planets between these degrees of Gemini, as these are likely to loop back around in June to be re-viewed and re-worked.
Saturn is also in her shadow zone from later this month until mid-November, where she will be re-viewing and re-working what she’s been up to since February. Since this is a larger time frame, it can be trickier to track themes. Keep in mind that Saturn is a function which creates limitation for the sake of sturdying foundations, so this could help you scan where you are feeling restricted, and if you’re working with or against that current.
With a New Moon in Taurus and a major aspects to Saturn, this week brings themes of security and stability to the surface in an airy mental-oriented atmosphere where practicality is challenged by shiny ideas and action is mitigated by empathy. May patience and emotional intelligence be your guide.
There are a lot of blindspots in the chart this week (semisextiles and quincunxes; aka: being one sign or six signs apart). Blindspots are neither directly challenging nor directly supportive. It’s more like these functions aren’t collaborating with each other. Venus & Mercury in Gemini are chatting with Saturn in Aquarius, but are sort of oblivious to the grounded & empathetic takes from the Sun and Mars. Folks on autopilot might display their cognitive dissonance more blatantly this week. On the flip side, self-awareness makes a big impact in how you show this week.
For practitioners of planetary magick, I also want to draw your attention to the fact that once Jupiter moves into Pisces and the Moon into Cancer, half the classical sky will be well-dignified in their domiciles. If you’re in the business of long-and-slow magickal intention-setting, the atmosphere is ripening. It’s talisman season.
